Spring break is something that most college students look forward to all year. You get a week-long break from classes, time to relax, and, in most cases, an excuse to kick back and let loose! But it’s not always easy to plan an exciting spring break when you’re on a college budget. To help, we’ve put together a list of some of our best tips and ideas to help you have a great spring break on a budget!
Split Trip Expenses With Friends
One of the best ways to save money on travel is to split the expenses with your group. If you’re going on a road trip, split the gas bill. Book an Airbnb instead of separate hotel rooms so you can split the cost. Cook your meals (more on that below) and divide the grocery bill. Doing this not only helps your wallet, but also your friends’!
Take Advantage of Student Discounts
Student discounts are undoubtedly one of the biggest perks of being a college student! Take advantage of your student ID over spring break. For one, many restaurants and stores offer student discounts. Always make sure you ask if a discount is available!
There are also many programs out there for students to travel on a discount. Check out our articles on where to find cheap flights for students and companies that offer student tours and college trips!
Be Flexible With Dates
When it comes to flights, some days are always more expensive than others. Try playing around with your trip dates to see if you can find a better price. Flying out on a Tuesday, for example, may be cheaper than leaving on a Saturday. Do your research and be as flexible as you can to find the best prices for your trip!
Avoid Eating Out
Part of the fun of going to new places is trying the food, but it can add up fast! You can still try some of the local restaurants, but try to balance it out by cooking where you can. Most Airbnbs and many hotels have small kitchens. Cook easy breakfasts in and save the money to eat out for lunches or dinners.
Even if you follow all of the above tips, booking things too late can be a budget killer. Prices always go up the closer you get to your trip dates. Book your flights and accommodations as early as possible to get a lower price!
It may seem impossible to plan the dream spring break on a budget. But with these tips, you can have fun and still keep your bank account in check!
